Collection, which draws its inspiration from the height of the highest mountain in Europe – the Mont Blanc. 4810 ExoTourbillon Slim merges the outstanding elegance with fine horological complications.

 

After the successful launch of the 4810 collection in 2016, Montblanc carries on with the news models – 4810 ExoTourbillon Slim for 2017. Starting from the very beginning, there is slightly redesigned 18K red gold version set with diamonds. Moving further, we have got my true favourite piece – 18K white gold version with a dial featuring night sky studded with stars motif.

 

 

I just love this piece. I remember back in 2015, when I first saw the Heritage Chronométrie ExoTourbillon Minute Chronograph in tribute to Vasco da Gama – the well-known explorer, who was the first European to reach India by sea. From that time, the motif of the night sky studded with stars became my favourite, as it is mesmerising and intriguing at the same time. However, despite I truly got captivated by this motif and watch back in 2015, I didn’t quite like the way it was clustered with various functions. This year I am fully satisfied by getting to see such elegant piece with just the main horological complications and ExoTourbillon of course.

 

 

As the Montblanc describes its ExoTourbillon: 

The one-minute ExoTourbillon construction was developed entirely in-house by the engineers and watchmakers at the Montblanc Manufacture. The Exo in the name is derived from the Greek for external or outside and refers to the screw balance, which is positioned outside of the tourbillon’s rotating cage.

The ExoTourbillon outperforms standard tourbillon constructions for two reasons: firstly, the weight of the cage of the ExoTourbillon is disconnected from the balance wheel, and secondly, the weight of the cage is minimal, thus resulting in higher precision and improved isochronism. The balance wheel, 9.7 mm in diameter, also plays an important part in the performance of the timepiece thanks to its 18 screws—with four of them that can be adjusted and the other 14 that are fixed—further improving precision and giving a traditional watchmaking look.

The barrel, with its 48-hour power reserve, is embedded under the main plate. Its position within the architecture of the movement was the result of a high level of development and testing that sought out the optimal equilibrium between the barrel, the rotor and the balance wheel.

 

 

These two models have two things in common, namely they are slim and they are slim. Taking into consideration the fact, they house the sophisticated ExoTourbillon, 10.14mm of height is pretty good result, making these pieces more comfortable and slim looking. 42mm of a case diameter is pretty comfortable size. The red gold version is equipped with the Calibre MB 29.21 movement, which is self-winding. It operates at 21’600 A/h (3 Hz) with the power reserve of 48 hours. ExoTourbillon features small seconds and quick stop-second mechanism. Crown setting and stop-indication can be found at 3 o’clock. Red gold numerals contrast well with the silvery-white dial in exploding star guilloche pattern. The bezel has been set with 68 Top Wesselton diamonds (1.326 ct), as well as the XII numeral – 18 Top Wesselton diamonds (0.02 ct).
