TOP 5 Watches That I Wore In 2018 (New Year’s Special)
As a New Year’s special, I will sum up 2018 and show you TOP 5 watches that I wore in 2018. These include Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and Omega.
2018 was crazy in terms of watches that I had opportunity to wear, test and create my opinion about. It was so hard to choose my TOP5 watches that I enjoyed wearing the most, though I think this TOP5 works very well. I wish you all a very happy New Year and hope 2019 will be even better than 2018!
Omega Speedmaster ‘From The Moon To Mars’
I am a fan of classic chronograph watches, I do like Rolex Daytona and I do like Omega Speedmaster as well. The ‘From The Moon To Mars’ edition just stunned me with this crazy addition of planets as chronograph sub-dials. The watch is definitely not perfect – plastic glass, instead of sapphire crystal, manual winding, instead of automatic and it’s not water resistant. All these things make this timepiece so true what it originally was. The size of the case (42mm) and nicely finished bracelet give you great comfort during a whole day on a wrist. I love legible and un-clustered watches and this one doesn’t let me down at all – the watch is sharp in view.
Rolex Daytona 116500LN
Yet another chronograph lands in this TOP5 – Rolex Daytona 116500LN. This watch is currently one of the most highly sought-after watches in the watch market at the moment. The design of Daytona is brilliant and I love all versions – solid gold, two-tone, bracelet, strap. This one is stainless-steel model with an upgraded dial and ceramic bezel. Classic contrast of black and white is a joy to look at. Same as Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch, Rolex Daytona 116500LN is legible. However, unlike the Speedmaster, the Daytona has a 40mm case, sapphire crystal and is water resistant to about 100 meters.
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore 26470ST.OOA104CR.01
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore watches – heavy hitters with a bullet-proof case and extremely intagrammable appearance. I have always found these watches ridiculously massive and uncomfortable to wear. However, I gave another shot and the model – 26470ST.OOA104CR.01 turned out to be a change. The case and crocodile strap were satisfyingly good fit for my rather thin wrist. As for the colour combination – wow! I’m in love with the grey ‘Mega Tapisserie’ dial with black contrasts, black ceramic chrono-pushers and crown, and grey crocodile strap, giving it a nice touch.
Patek Philippe World Time 5110R
Well… yes, I had an opportunity to wear this grand classic from Patek Philippe. 5110R features a complicated World Time function, allowing traveller or businessman to read time in 24 time zones. Despite the function, the watch is compact and extremely legible and easy to use. The size of the 18K rose gold case – 37mm is ideal for such subtle and elegant timepiece. Black alligator strap coils around the wrist very well and the case itself, sits very neatly.
Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5167A-001
And the final piece is my personal grail of sports watches – Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5167A-001. It’s so unique for a modern sports watch to have such minimalistic presence on a wrist. It weighs next to nothing, due to a tropical rubber strap and thin case with a brushed bezel and mirror-polished finish to the rest of the case. This black mesmerising dial stuns me, every time I look at it – amazing attention to details and simplicity.
