HYT, Watch Reviews

HYT – Skull Red Eye and Green Eye

New watches for 2015 year from HYT. Namely The Skull Red Eye and Skull Green Eye. Agressive and brave design combining the fine watchmaking with fluid mechanics.

I’m really surprised that the third HYT’s collection is mostly dedicated to the skull as the main motif, nevertheless this collection impressed me. The collection consists of two watches with two coloristic versions of fluid flowing around the watch – red and green. You might feel a bit confused about reading the newest watch. The thing tou have to know about this watch is the dial shows hours, seconds and power reserve. Yes, this watch doesn’t indicate the minutes. But, who needs the minutes while wearing such futuristic timepiece ?

Now, the heart of this incredible Skull watch. The challenge was really demanding to create a movement, which puts together the mechanical movement and the hydro system in a closed, water resistant circuit. They had to be installed separately to be uninfluenced and then they had to be made to work at the same time. The task they faced was really tough, but the brand met a challenge. Additionally we can admire this sophisticated, complex movement through the revealed case back, which presents sapphire glass tinted in matching colour (red or green). The movement works at 4Hz – 28,800 vib/h with the power reserve of 65 hours.

At launch, the new collection will actually offer the two coloristic versions, namely the red and green. The Skull Green Eye features completely new, enormously massive 51mm case made of Black DLC titanium with brushed, micro-blasted and polished finishes with green liquid. The Skull Red Eye has an 51mm case made of Black DLC titanium and 18K rose gold, with red fluid. I am pretty curious how this enormous watch fits on the wrist.

The Skull motif is becoming more famous in the fine watchmaking. We can see it for example in Hublot and Richard Mille watches. I don’t know what make them so popular for the luxury watches.
But, with new collection, HYT has entered the group of the skull watches, with the innovative hydro system in addition.

The dial of the HYT Skull is really interesting. The liquid flowing through the outline of the Skull shows the hours. The eyes are indicators also. The left eye displays seconds and the right eye indicates a power reserve. Skull watch isn’t as accurate as many other watches. In theory it doesn’t show minutes, but the position of the liquid moving between hours to show the time within about 10 minutes. At 6 o’clock we can see a metal dome, which is an interesting part of this skull design. The dial is covered in sapphire glass with anti-reflective coating. As the attachment to the wrist, there is an black leather alligator strap with black DLC titanium pin buckle.

The Skull Red Eye is limited to just 25 pieces and Skull Green Eye to 50 pieces.
