IWC’s first model to ever share the hour and minute indicators with the moon phase in the single dial. Let me introduce to you the Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph.
Everything is presented within one big subdial at 12 o’clock, making it a crowning achievement of the watchmaking craftsmanship. To reconcile these all together, the shadow of earth and the moon are introduced on a single disc. They rotate underneath the aperture in the subdial’s lower part.
“Poor is the pupil who does not surpass his master”, Leonardo da Vinci supposedly said to the man who taught him his craft. These words were also at the back of the minds of IWC’s engineers as they set about redeveloping the perpetual calendar created by IWC master watchmakerand inventor Kurt Klaus. While creating the 89630 calibre, IWC’s present-day master watchmakers constantly referred back to the old design blueprints that were their source of inspiration.
The self-winding Calibre 89630 movement and its whole beauty can be admired through the sapphire case back. Red gold winding rotor blends really well with both technical complexity of the movement and elegance of the Da Vinci design code.
From the technical aspect, we get the perpetual calendar, which was divided into three subdials – day of the week (9 o’clock), date (3 o’clock), month (6 o’clock) and a four-digit year display between 7 and 8 o’clock. Style of these subdials is really subtle, but yet well presented, to let the moon phase shine as the main theme. This new Da Vinci wristwatch features also a stopwatch with an accuracy of one-eight of a seconds and flyback functions. By using two push-buttons to control all the chronograph functions.
This model comes with two versions. IW392103 – stainless steel with slate-coloured dial and IW392101 – 18K red gold with silver-plated dial.
