Richard Mille always surprise me with its solutions in the design of its watches, but Tourbillon RM 56-02 Sapphire totally surprised me.

 The new timepiece is in fact entirely made of sapphire glass, this is the incredible such model that shows the spectacular use of this material on such a huge scale. Sapphire crystal is extremely hard and resistant to the scratches. Even more interesting feauture about this watch is to mount the movement on the tiny, but sturdy wire rope. The cable is attached to the special blocks to ensure proper maintenance mechanism in the case.

“Tension indicator located below 12 o’clock, a separate indicator allows the visual inspection of the cable tension. A titanium lever with an indicator arrow ensures that one can visually control that the cable is operating within designated norms.”

It was a huge challenge to create such timepiece, which enitrely made of extremely tough sapphire. The process of the sapphire treatment is really delicate, it involves the careful work, there is no place for the smallest fault during the whole process.
To maximize the optical impressions of the RM 56-02, the front and a back bezel have been applied with the antiglare coating. The case is built up with the 24 spline screws, all in 5-grade titanium.

The movement of this watch is the Calibre RM56-02 with the manual winding and tourbillon, it indicates hours and minutes. This is the incredible work of art showing the extreme transparency and lightness of every single detail, made carefully in this timepiece. Even, the movement parts like barrel, torubillon and center bridges are made of sapphire crystal !

The watch is limited to just 10 pieces. The incredible fact about it is that takes 960 hours to build a case for a single watch, and 400 hours for a notch and fine-tuning every single watch. So, the work on a single watch takes approximately 1400 hours! The sheer madness. The frame, on which blocks are mounted and the whole mechanism is made of titanium (grade 5). Watch strap is made of special composite Aerospace Nano to provide possibly the best resistance and comfort in wearing this watch.
