This year at the Baselworld, Bell & Ross has presented the watch, which relates to the world of cigars. When you look at the WW1 Edicion Limitada timepiece you can find at a glance its main motif by the characteristic shades of the brown colour.

 It is associated with the classic, iconic cuban cigars. Watches and cigars have some similarities. Yes, you can think that these two things are so different. But, the truth is that the external simplicity of both cigars and watches is just the quintessence and the result of the demanding and careful process of the manufacturing. Slightly moving watch depends on its precise and reliable movement and only watchmaker knows about the complexicity of assembling. The same thing is with the cigars. The single cigar is the result of the laborious and careful process of the folding tobacco leaves that come from a different parts of the plant. The ‘torcedor’ is a skilled cigar roller, who knows about all secrets concerned with cigar making.

The vintage design of the WW1 Edicion Limitada watch is a tribute to the cigars. Starting with the smooth brown colour of the dial, narrow alligator leather strap and the perfect case roundness. The sleek wire lugs that attach the strap to the watch, brings to mind the early wristwatches, from which this watch takes some design clarity and shapeliness.

The heart of the WW1 Edicion Limitada watch is the Calibre BR-CAL.202., which is the hand-wound mechanical movement. It operates at 28,800 vph and features double barrel with a huge power reserve of about 5 days. Through the sapphire crystal case back we can see this beautiful movement and its bridges finished with the effective Côtes de Genève centered on the balance.

 

 

The front of this watch is covered with the high-dome sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. A dial features the powdered gold arabic numerals, which harmonize really well with the cigar brown colour of the dial. The eye-catching thing is the balance situated at 9 o’clock in the aperture. The 5 days power reserve indicator is visible at 4-6 o’clock. Hours and minutes are indicated by the curved hands. The whole watch is ensured with 30 meters of water resistance. WW1 Edicion Limitada is a limited to 99 pieces.
