Chopard – Mille Miglia 2015 Race Edition

Chopard - Mille Miglia 2015 Race Edition

Here we have the new creation from Chopard. As the Chopard is the official timekeeper of the Mille Miglia since 1988, we get the fresh, limited edition Mille Miglia Race Edition watch for this year’s prestigious event- Mille Miglia 2015.

From the very beginning there are some real signs of the classic race cars inspiration. Big numerals and power reserve indicator look like these elements known from the distinguishable 1950s dashboards. The new feature and at the same time most striking thing is the ‘Rossa Corsa’ red colour of the dial, when I look at it, I have the speeding through the climatic Italian roads, classic Ferrari cars in my mind.

Chopard - Mille Miglia 2015 Race Edition

Basically, the new Mille Miglia 2015 Race Edition watch is based on the presented earlier at Baselworld 2015 GTS Power Control timepiece, so it can indicate the power reserve in such interesting way. Moreover we can see a date display presented in the Mille Miglia red arrow-shaped logo. The legibility of this watch is enhanced by the luminescent coating on hour markers and hands. The addition and the emphasis of the sporting spirit at the same time is the black Barenia leather calfskin strap in racing style. The Mille Miglia race can’t go wrong with such timepiece on the enthusiasts wrists. The watch expresses the racing spirit, which combines the Italian elegance with the sporty efficiency.

The watch is equipped with the in-house self-winding Calibre 01.08-C movement, which is COSC-certified. It is the same Calibre that works in the GTS Power Control watch. It features the 60 hours of power reserve and operates at 28,800 vph (4 Hz). Through the sapphire crystal case back we can see the movement with its winding rotor alomg with the engraving ‘BRESCIA > ROMA > BRESCIA’ at the case back rim relating to the Mille Miglia’s racecourse, which starts at Brescia, runs through the Rome and finishes in Brescia. The Race Edition watch comes with the two versions, the first in a stainless steel and the second in more expensive 18K rose gold version. The stainless steel case model is limited to the 1000 pieces, where the 18K gold is limited to just 100 pieces.

The Mille Miglia 2015 Race Edition watch goes with the sturdy case with a diameter of 43mm and 11.43mm of thickness, available in mentioned earlier two configurations – stainless steel or 18K rose gold. For me personally, the stainless steel case version is more appealing and matches more to the whole vintage spirit of the classic race cars. The black aluminium insert with a time scale on the bezel gives this watch the slight touch of delicacy. Moving further to the dial and its functions, we can find the power reserve indicator at 9 o’clock and a date display in the aperture at 3 o’clock. The time reading seems to be very legible, especially with these luminescent coated hour markers and hands. The watch is ensured with the water resistance of 100 meters. The front and the case back is covered with the glareproofed sapphire crystal.
